Welcome to the third post in the Createyou86 Whimsical Holiday December Blog Series.  We are so happy that you are joining us for this series.  We are truly enjoying sharing these holiday posts with you.  One of the most important parts of the holidays are traditions.  It is very important to have your own traditions.  This can become especially difficult when you get married, and have a family, or are engaged, and family expects you to split time between families.  It is all well, and good that you do the things that your family passed down to you, or that your family WANTS you to do, but you should also create you own traditions that you can one day pass on as well.  This post will share our current family traditions as well as some traditions that we have started as a couple that we will pass down one day.

Thanksgiving: Current
  • Wake up early to  start cooking, watch the parade, watch the dog show, and watch football as it comes on later in the afternoon.
  • Family comes over around 3:00 PM for appetizers.
  • Dinner around 5:00 PM, and after dinner we relax, and watch football.
Christmas Eve: Current
  • We go to Catholic Church Mass with friends, and family around 5:00 PM.
  • After Church we go to Hibachi for dinner, and drinks.
  • After dinner we drive around locally, and look at Christmas Lights.
  • Go home, and relax, and get presents ready for the morning, and maybe do some last minute wrapping.
Christmas Day: Present
Christmas Day is much like Thanksgving Day in that we have the same schedule except for:
  • Opening presents
  • Watch the Parade
  • Appetizers
  • Having dinner
  • After dinner we go to out next door neighbors house for drinks.
Future Traditions
In the future we hope to pass these new traditions that we start on our own down to our children.
  • Watching 24 hours of A Christmas Story (the movie) on TBS...not the whole 24 hours lol.
  • Watching the parade.
  • Hibachi....because who doesn't love Hibachi?
  • Using an Advent Calendar
  • Decorating the home for Christmas together!
  • Driving around, and looking at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve
  • Make a gingerbread house
  • FOOTBALL....Both James, and I LOVE FOOTBALL, and watching football is always a huge part of Thanksgiving, and Christmas, so watching the games will definitely be passed down.
These are just a few of the traditions that we hope to hand down to our family in the future, and traditions that we have started on our own.

What are some of your favorite family traditions?  Let us know in the comments below!

We always attend our Holiday Parade in our town, eat with Santa, and spend one day of Christmas Break in our pajamas having a holiday movie-a-thon with popcorn of course.

Brandi,
Thanks for stopping by. That sounds like so much fun..we have considered the Philly parades (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Mummers). Most times it is just too cold to do those types of activities. We could definitely throw in a movie day! Thanks for the great idea!

These are great! One of my all time favorite traditions is opening one gift on Christmas Eve after dinner. The gift was always a game that we would play as a family. :)

Kari,
Thanks for stopping by. That is a very popular tradition. We enjoy opening on Christmas morning so everyone can share, and we watch the parade at the same time.

Sounds like you have a blast on the holidays. We have lots of traditions around our house. One of ours is to open one Christmas present on Christmas Eve night, after listening to Daddy read The Night Before Christmas to everyone. The present is always a new pair of pjs. Not only are pjs comfy, but everyone looks great for Christmas morning pictures.
