Welcome to another book review here at Createyou86. This is one of those rare occurrences where James, the other half of Createyou86 gives you his side of the story. James was very excited when i told him that after all of the books i have been receiving, there would finally be one for him to read. James is a man strong in his faith, and is always eager to learn more so i let him take the reigns on this review.
As a man, sometimes i have a hard time explaining things, that i might want, need or desire. This doesn't only happen in my personal life, but in my spiritual, and emotional life as well. I don't mean to let it happen, but sometimes as a man i don't take the time to find the best of myself, or others as well. We [men] need to find the best in ourselves first. It is okay to believe in a higher power, in fact i would encourage you to weather it is God, or something else that you find comfort in, but regardless of our religion, or belief we need to learn ways to be better. For this review i chose the first 4 chapters to look at more in depth. For me, the first chapter set the tone for the entire book. Figuring yourself out is essential because you can't help anyone else in their life unless you are able to help yourself. This can be applied in many aspects such as love or giving advice. Knowing yourself will make you a better teacher, mentor, friend, husband, and person in general. God has helped me in so many ways in my life. Through God i know that he is there for me no matter what time of the day, or day of the year. The second thing that i learned was that encouragement goes a long way. Weather we are wishing friends, family, or co-workers good luck, or just letting someone know that they can do something without a doubt it all comes down to encouragement equaling support. God supports us in everything that we do, and we should all support each other as well. The third thing that i learned is that asking questions shows that you truly care. There will come a time in life when you will want help. There may even be times when the people around us need help, and ways to show that we are truly invested in that person is to ask questions such as " How can i help?", or "Help me understand!" This book has helped me in many ways, and i feel like i can always look back to it if i need guidance in any of the seventeen chapters in this book. There is always more to learn. I also enjoyed this book because the chapters were broken down into shorter parts within the chapter which made for easy reading, and comprehension. At the ends of the chapters there are several "Questions to Consider" along side a specific lesson for each chapter. I would recommend this book to any man young or old who is looking for themselves, and looking to build their faith, or just become a better person overall. I look forward to reviewing some other products in the future from a mans perspective. *Createyou86 was provided a free copy of this book in hopes that we would review it, and share it on our blog, but we did not receive any monetary compensation for this review, and all reviews are our own opinions. Welcome to another book review here at Createyou86. I found this particular book super interesting. Many times we go through our daily lives, and church on Sunday's without even thinking about how, or who has helped our particular religion, or church succeed throughout the millenia. Bearing Witness brings to light just a handful of the christian people who have layed down their lives, and struggled for Jesus.
Being newer to the Christian faith, i am always learning new things, and this book has brought to light through easy to read, and understand stories what being a follower of Christ really means. This book focuses not only on very early Christianity, but brings the stories of persecution all the way to the modern era. The book is broken down into four parts: Early Christians, Radical Reformers, Early Modern Witnesses, and Recent Witnesses. Each Martyr is recognized through his or her name, date of death, and place of death. These people are from all over the world, and their great stories are told in easy to read chapters. Some of the stories i chose to read were Stephen (from Jerusalem, Jan Hus (from Germany), Jacob Hochstetler (i had to read this one being from Pennsylvania myself), and Clarence Jordan (United States). I particularly connected with the story of Jacob who was a settler in early colonial Pennsylvania, and the story of his family, the surrounding Indian tribes, and the struggle, and eventual death that he, and his family endured in the name of Christ. I highly recommend this book if you are new to the Christian faith, or are looking for a deeper look into how the christian faith was formed, and has survived. These stories can be sad, and unsettling as they should be. These stories let us know that there were people before us who showed their love for Christ by recognizing that " non-resistent love is not likely to be rewarded here on earth." I love to read, and If your child is in middle school, and they loved Percy Jackson, or Harry Potter, and no matter boy or girl they will love The League and The Lantern. This book has been one of the most successful children's novels in Kickstarter's history. The kickstarter reached its goal of $10,000 in under four hours, and has since been labeled "Project We Love" by the crowdsourcing giant. By the end of the thirty day campaign the goal was topped by an incredible 620%.
Veteran TV Executive, and author Brian Wells is committed to creating engaging content, and instilling positivity into his characters even when the going gets tough. This series is target specifically toward readers ages nine to fourteen, but the characters, and story conveys the type of character parents want to see in their kids. In addition Brian Wells has taken the top 140 vocabulary words that middle schoolers need to succeed throughout their middle school years, and has invisibly woven them into the story. This will help your child stay sharp for school during summer, and winter breaks without even realizing that they are "doing the work." Secondly the characters in this story discover lessons in mercy, compassion, and charity. This is shown in real life when each copy is purchased, one copy of The League and The Lantern is donated to a child in need. The League and The Lantern is available for pre-order now at LeagueandLantern.com for $16.00 (plus shipping), and $7.99 for the e-book. There is a FREE sneak peek of the first six chapters of the book available on the website as well. My thoughts: I was a huge lover of Harry Potter, as well as Ellen Hopkins' book series for young adults, and this book could easily be up there with both of those series. There is just as much wonderment, and imagination in The League and The Lantern as there is in Harry Potter, or Percy Jackson. The plot is always twisting so it will keep your children engaged, and always wondering what will happen next. The story is easy to follow, easy to read, and instills great concepts of family, friendship, compassion, and adventure. I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for the next great gift for birthday's, holiday's, or just everyday reading. *I was provided a copy of this book free of charge from Flyby promotions to test, and review, but all opinions are my own. Book Review: None Like Him 10 Ways God Is Different From Us, and why that is a good thing!5/10/2016 Welcome to another product review at Createyou86. This is another great book which explains how God is self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, immutable, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign, infinite, and incomprehensible. This book by Jill Wilkins is a one hundred, and sixty three page softcover book where Jill gives her personal revelation regarding all of the above. She hopes to bring back God-Fearing in all of us, but not in a bad or oppressive way of the past, rather in a liberating, and reflective way. Jill explains how God being different than us is a good thing, and that our limitations weather mentally, physically, or any other way are by design because we were never meant to be God. On the other hand Jill goes on to explain that at the root of every sin is our rebellious desire to possess attributes that belong to God alone. Jill calls us to embrace our limits as a means of glorifying God's limitless powers, and invites us to celebrate the freedom that comes when we finally understand that it is best to let God be God. Throughout this book is scripture on almost every page. At the end of each chapter are questions for review, verses for meditation, and a simple prayer that goes along with each chapter. I really enjoyed reading this book. Being new to Christianity myself, i always like reading different peoples accounts, and learning new perspectives.
